British Designer Antony Price, Famed for Designing for Iconic Acts Like Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
The British designer Antony Price, the influential UK-based designer behind many legendary styles worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.
His reputation was built on his defined forms and performative fashion, including the light-hued ensembles that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."
This news arrives shortly after he debuted his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by the late Princess Diana.
A Lasting Legacy
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His signature ability to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in crafting body-hugging looks established him as a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.
In the 1990s, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as various looks for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.
After a career spanning half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.
