Democrats Criticize Trump After He States They Should Face Execution
Democratic officials expressed fury after former President Donald Trump alleged a coalition of Democratic legislators of being "betrayers" and asserted they should be arrested and sentenced "with execution" following their publication of a controversial video.
The Content That Triggered the Dispute
The clip, published on earlier this week, features six Democratic congress members who previously served in military or intelligence positions.
"Like us, you all took an oath to defend and defend this national charter," the officials affirmed in the brief video. "At present, the dangers to our constitution don't only come from foreign nations, but from within our own country. Our regulations are unambiguous, you can decline illegal orders, you can refuse unlawful commands, you must decline improper directives. No one has to execute orders that violate the law or our constitution."
Donald Trump's Furious Reaction
The video message reportedly prompt a furious reply from the previous commander-in-chief.
On Thursday morning, Trump published on his preferred platform: "This represents SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."
In another publication, he declared: "This constitutes really serious, and Dangerous to our United States. Their statements cannot be enabled to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"
In a third publication, he stated: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also redistributed a declaration that said: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"
Opposition Officials Answer
Following Trump's remarks on that day, House Democratic leader released a unified statement denouncing the remarks.
"Violent politics has no place in the United States," they stated. "Congress members who appeared in the video all served our United States with tremendous national pride and honor. We strongly denounce Donald Trump's disgusting and dangerous calls for execution against congressional representatives, and call on Republican lawmakers to strongly do the same."
The Democratic leaders also said that they had been in touch with security officials "to guarantee the safety of these officials and their loved ones."
"Donald Trump must without delay remove these unhinged social media posts and retract his violent language before he leads to violence," the declaration continued.
Officials' Strong Response
The officials who participated in the video also published a statement.
"We identify as former service members and security experts who value this United States and made an pledge to protect and defend the founding document of the United States," they stated. "This commitment lasts a lifetime, and we intend to maintain it. No intimidation, pressure, or call for violence will deter us from that important duty."
"What's most telling is that the former president views it subject to penalty by death for us to repeat the statutes," they added. "Our service members should understand that we have their protection as they fulfill their pledge to the founding principles and duty to follow only legal commands. It is not only the proper thing to do, but also our obligation."
They continued: "All citizens must join forces and censure the ex-president's calls for our death and political violence. This is a period for moral clarity."
Further Governmental Comments
The Democratic Senate minority leader also denounced Trump's remarks and posted on digital platforms: "Let's be crystal clear: the ex-commander in chief is demanding the death of public representatives."
He stated: "This is an outright THREAT. Each congressional member, all representatives, all citizens – without partisan consideration – should condemn this immediately and without qualification."
The Conservative official defended Trump's allegation that the Democrats had engaged in "treason", characterizing the video as "highly unsuitable", commenting: "This constitutes very dangerous, you have leading members of Congress instructing soldiers to disobey orders, I think that represents historic in US history."
The Republican leader also reportedly told the press that in what he read of Trump's posts, Trump was "defining the violation of rebellion" but that "attorneys have to examine the wording and decide all that."
Executive Branch Response
During a administration briefing on Thursday afternoon, when inquired by a reporter, "Is the president want to kill elected officials?", the administration spokesperson responded: "No."
"We should understand about what the former president is responding to," the spokesperson stated. "You have active officials of the federal government who coordinated to organize a recorded statement to personnel of the American armed forces, to current military personnel encouraging them to disobey the executive's lawful orders."
She added: "The integrity of our defense system rests on the command structure, and if that chain of command is broken, it can cause casualties, it can result in chaos, and precisely what these members of Congress ... are essentially supporting."
