Spurs Manager Frank Calls Goalkeeper Booers 'Not True Genuine Fans'

The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Beat Spurs and Increase Pressure on the Manager

Tottenham Hotspur supporters who jeered goalkeeper Vicario were told afterwards "those individuals cannot be true Spurs supporters" by manager Thomas Frank.

Tottenham let in two scores in the opening six minutes to fall 2-1 to Fulham, registering their tenth top-flight home defeat of the year.

However the main talking point was the visitors' second goal when the keeper gave away possession far beyond his box.

He came out to handle a high pass and carried the ball near the touchline.

However, rather than kicking it out of play, the Italy international spun and tried to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was collected by King.

The forward laid the ball off to Welsh midfield player Wilson, who bent a strike into the goal from the touchline measured at 36.6 metres.

Seconds afterwards when the ball came to the keeper again, some Tottenham supporters jeered him.

Spurs were booed off at half-time, with the side 2-0 down, and once more at the final whistle.

One of those jeering sessions truly angered Frank.

"I heard a few of our fans apparently booed the situation and booed after, which, in my view is totally unacceptable," the Dane stated about the fans' response to his goalkeeper.

"Those individuals can't be true Tottenham fans that do that. Fair enough jeering after the game, no problem, but when we are in play, we are backing one another, we are with each other moving ahead."

Kenny Tete had handed Fulham a fourth-minute advantage before Harry Wilson's strike – with Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an improved second period showing.

Former top-flight keeper Hart stated that the next goal was "totally preventable".

"I certainly understand the supporters' disappointment," Hart added. "I am aware the role Vicario is performing. He's a excellent squad member, he's a real figure in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your decisions.

"He was deeply implicated in what ended up to be the winning goal."

'It's Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'

Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Game

Italy national team Vicario is in his third season with Tottenham.

He said after the match that he had to accept the criticism.

"The second goal was a mistake of my own, I take responsibility for it," he said.

"My aim was to kick the ball long and I simply struck the ball in a poor manner. That made an even bigger challenge to climb."

He stated being booed "comes with football".

"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he added. "The team cannot be affected by the situation in the stands. Supporters have the entitlement to do as they see fit.

"It is on the team to stay more calm, to concentrate on ourselves. We are missing in calmness and poise to reverse outcomes. Today is a bad loss and it is hard to take."

'It Shocked Me Nobody Went Back to the Goal Line'

Despite the keeper's mistake, it was far from an simple score for Wilson to convert.

Actually it was the second longest-range top division goal of the campaign – following Adams' forty-three point three metre goal for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which interestingly too came on the same day.

Wilson stated he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an empty goal to aim for.

10 moments passed between the keeper exiting of his area and Wilson shooting – which was five seconds after the kick.

"I felt like the keeper was out of the area for a long time," Wilson said.

"I was surprised not one of the back four returned to the goal line. When none of them defended the goal, my eyes sparked somewhat.

"Udogie fell as well, which allowed me a bit of extra time. After that it was all about attempting to achieve the right contact and get it towards goal. I felt a good sense, as soon as it left my boot, that it was on the right line."

'When You're in a Bad Spell, All Seems to Work Against You'

Booing Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Completely Unacceptable - the Manager

Although the keeper's mistake dominated headlines, this was an overall bad day for Spurs to extend their home struggles.

This was their tenth home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a joint team record along with 1994 and 2003.

The side still have home games against the manager's old side Brentford and champions Liverpool to play before the end of the season.

Only one of those wins have occurred after Frank took over from his predecessor in the off-season.

"When you're down 2-0 following the opening, there is a huge challenge to overcome," stated Frank.

"When you're in a poor run, all aspects appears to go against you too – the opening was a redirected shot, the next is a mistake from Vic.

"This result leaves us in a position where we have suffered another match. Every game has a single story, this game we lost in the first six minutes.

"We simply need to continue striving. The later period was significantly improved and hopefully something we can use to learn."

Tottenham have lost 4 straight at home London derbies for the first time in the Premier League.

And they are averaging nine point five shots and 3.2 efforts on goal per game in the Premier League – their lowest rates on file in a single campaign (since at least the 2003-04 season).

Ex- Cottagers midfielder Danny Murphy stated that Frank has to endure the criticism.

"He's got accept the stick," Murphy remarked. "He's accepted a prestigious job at a major team with massive anticipation. There is pressure and responsibility that comes with that.

"The performances at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
